I think it boils down to very effective marketing by those fee charging companies and ignorance of any alternative.

Also the adverts often seem to promise the impossible, and the debtors are very vulnerable.

    I’ve wondered this, like putting salt and pepper on yourself for the vultures, isn’t it? Maybe they got into debt in the first place by believing every dumb advertisement they saw.

    I don’t think people realise that they can get the same advice for free – also it’s part of the culture, they think that if they pay a lot they’ll get a better service.
