Ive just come off the phone to a company who charges 15% of my £400 a month which amounts to £63 a month. . Over the 12 month plan i’ll pay them £756!!!!! What a rip off! My debts are £3500
It’s a service, hence you pay for it. These are businesses, not charities, as are your creditors.
Citizens Advice or the Consumer Credit Counselling Service may be able to provide pointers, but the only way of getting it done free is doing it yourself with each creditor.
If you don’t want to pay that they are asking, it’ll be worth the time on the phone. In all honesty, it’d be worth the time on the phone anyway, just to ensure that the debt management company has come to arrangements that your creditors are happy to accept rather than just sending them some money every month – if they are not willing to accept the offer charges may still be leivied, and the amount will rise – seen it before – often these debt management companies aren’t all that good.
Look after your own debt would be my advice.

The citizens advice bureau do this for free. No fees. They are probably more skilled than the people who charge fees.
